Fertility FAQ

How long should I expect and plan to be in the fertility program?

Results will vary although we expect clients to be involved in the fertility program on average for 3-6 months. In some cases a successful pregnancy can take longer to achieve when there are underlying conditions or trying to conceive at an older age. Female eggs take 3-4 months to fully mature and it can take this amount of time to see a substantial change in egg quality. Men regenerate sperm daily, but it takes 74 days for sperm to fully mature. Therefore, the treatments efficacy will likely take 3 months to be shown in sperm quality.

The Lifecycle of Sperm: sperm development

Should both partners (if female and male) commit to the program?

For best results, we recommend both partners be treated. It truly takes two! Even if only one partner has been diagnosed with an underlying condition that is impacting their fertility, the other partner can bolster their fertility health with our program. Also, there can be imbalances from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective that fertility clinics are not equipped to diagnose or treat.

What are the risks of red light therapy?

Red light therapy is generally very safe and minimally invasive. The biggest safety concern is specifically for the eyes when treating red light on the face. We provide safety glasses/goggles for all patients who are using red light therapy.

Red light therapy has not been studied for use over the abdomen or lumbar region in pregnancy, so we do not use it in situations in which a woman could be pregnant over these body regions.

We do not use red light over any regions with suspected or confirmed malignant cancers because there have not been studies on this use.

We do not use over the thyroid gland, overactive bleeding sites, with clients with hemorrhagic disorders, Regions with active deep vein thrombosis, or thrombophlebitis.

What research has been performed on male red light therapy and fertility?

Studies have primarily been performed in Russia and Japan and studies have been very limited in the United States.

Our short treatment time and use of red light only does not heat the testes so it is safe for men’s fertility. There has been shown to be no DNA damage to the sperm with this therapy, it can increase sperm count and motility, and reduce the number of abnormal sperm.

Research shows that the sperm changes very quickly and we recommend specifically red light therapy the day of trying to conceive or delivering a sperm sample.

What research has been performed on female red light therapy and fertility?

Studies have shown red light therapy can be particularly beneficial for women that are 35 and older, have underlying conditions impacting their fertility (PCOS, low ovarian reserve), and have had previous miscarriages.

When should I begin treatments?

As soon as possible! Although our personalized program is designed to be started on day 1 of menstruation for women, you can start at any time. Packages are intended to be used for 1 menstrual cycle or 1 month’s time. We find that earlier intervention leads to the best outcomes.

What if I become pregnant in the middle of the package?

If pregnancy occurs, treatments will be performed to support a healthy pregnancy.

What if I am undergoing IUI or IVF?

Treatments will be tailored for these purposes, and we will make specific alterations to your treatment plan. This may consist of purchasing an additional treatment that is utilized the week of the transfer. We highly recommend at least 7-10 treatments prior to your transfer date for optimal results.

How can I prepare for this program?

We strongly advise that you and or your partner track menstrual cycles and testing for ovulation with test strips. We also recommend that if you have been to a Western fertility specialist and had testing performed, to bring any data you have related to fertility testing and/or diagnoses.

Will insurance cover these sessions?

Although many insurance plans cover acupuncture services for pain therapy, insurance does not consider fertility treatments as a coverable diagnosis. Therefore, we do not accept insurance for this program. We are happy to provide superbills if you would like to try to submit your visits to your insurance company for reimbursement.
